History of the Barney Charter School Initiative – Founders Classical Academy

Founders Classical Academy of Lewisville

We started our survey of the history of the Barney Charter School Initiative (BCSI) yesterday with Hillsdale Academy. We turn now to the charter schools that played a formative role in its development over the last decade.

Founders Classical Academy of Lewisville opened in 2012 and, along with Estancia Valley Classical Academy in New Mexico, is considered the first BCSI-affiliated school. Founded by ResponsiveEd (who went on to start several BCSI-affiliated Founders schools in Texas), Founders Classical Academy of Lewisville has over 900 students and a waiting list of even more. It has an “A” report card from the Texas Department of Education and an A+ rating from Niche where it is honored as the #1 best public elementary and middle school in Denton County (it’s rated the #3 best high school).

Founders Classical Academy of Lewisville is a vision of what we aspire toward in Tulsa. We believe the Tulsa market can and will sustain a school of similar size, scale, level of achievement, and recognition.
