Graduating in 1969 from high school in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, Mr. Watson enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving for nine years while being stationed in the Panama Canal Zone; Keflavik, Iceland; and USS AMERICA (CVA-66). He also served one year with the Georgia National Guard while in law school.

Mr. Watson has spent many years in the classroom, both as a student and as a teacher and has taught at the high school and college levels. Courses taught include ancient, American, and British literature; rhetorical writing; western philosophy; Latin; and some history tossed into the mix. Because of his appreciation for all literature past and present, he has authored several literature courses as well as offering instruction in critical writing.

 

Mr. Watson developed a course in philosophy for high school students, Ever Learning: The History and Fundamentals of Western Philosophy, which centers on the popular book, Sophie’s World. In addition to this, he is the author of Critique of Pure Education: A Philosophy for the Christian Home Educator and of the award-winning poem, The Epic of Gilgamesh: A Poetic Version, a retelling of this ancient tale in heroic couplets.

 

Mr. Watson enjoys writing book reviews and opinion pieces through his blog, The Dunce’s Corner, reading especially from the classics, cooking, and solving sudoku and crossword puzzles
