Dear TCA Families,

I hope that this letter finds you surviving one of the hottest summers I have experienced in my life. When I first arrived in Tulsa, I was overjoyed at the pleasant change of weather. Florida was perpetually hot and humid. What would one expect from a place that was located on the Gulf coast and in the Everglades? It was jungle hot! I never thought I would experience another summer like that again. Lo and behold, the heat and humidity of this Tulsa summer rivals any summer I can recall in the Everglades!

In spite of the glorious Tulsa heat, we recently had a groundbreaking ceremony. Mrs. Taliaferro, planned a delightful event for a small gathering of people. There were a handful of founding families, many founding board members, some good friends and donors, among them was First Lady Sarah Stitt. She gave a delightful talk about the school and her friendships with founding board members. It was a great night for friends and families.

The entire administrative team has spent time in the classroom. This is one reason why we have all taken on teaching a class. While we are administrators, we also view ourselves as teachers. Teachers , particularly classical teachers are very difficult to find. We work very hard to find teachers who are hard working, intelligent, and of high character, who love the Western Tradition. In attempting to do so, we have created  an excellent document called “Recovering the Art of Teaching.  You can find it by clicking on this link:

If you are curious about what we look for in teachers this work will give you insight. I am most grateful for the teachers that we have in the building. It is a brilliant, hard-working, great-souled group of people, who have developed a rare unity deeply rooted in their love of the mission of passing on Western Tradition to future generations.

My children and I  had the good fortune of attending the Cross Country meet in Sapulpa last weekend. It was amazing to be present and see our students crossing the finish line. I was amazed by how many students actually participate in Cross Country. We have some great runners endowed with great character. Overall our students finished well and represented TCA with integrity. Mr. Hodges is to be commended for the good work that he is doing with our athletic program. Our girls elementary team finished 6th place overall out of 17 teams, while our boys elementary team finished in second place out of twenty teams. Among our older kids Grayson Briggs in eighth grade finished twenty-second, while Cruz Cozort in tenth took ninth in their individual races. Congratulations to all of the LionHearts who ran last weekend. I am very proud of y’all!

As we embark upon my third year at TCA, I am profoundly grateful to be a part of this special community. I am grateful for all of the support I have received from families and students. Your engagement in the mission of pursuing intellectual and moral excellence is unparalleled. Let us continue to persevere in our pursuit of passing on the best of Western Tradition in an effort to preserve our heritage! Go LionHearts!

Pax et Bonum

Mr. Garcia
