“Education is simply the soul of a society as it passes from one generation to another.”

G.K. CHESTERTON

Dr. Reese

Dean of Students

  • B.A. English, University of Tennessee
  • M.A. English, University of Memphis
  • M.Litt. Theology, St. Andrews University
  • Ph.D. Literature and Theology, Aberdeen University

Dr. Spencer Reese earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and Creative Writing from the University of Tennessee in 1999 and then in 2001 attended the University of Memphis to earn a Masters in English with a concentration in British Literature. In 2005, he was selected to the Renaissance Research Team at Exeter University, England, for a research project on allegorical literature as fairy tale. In 2012, Dr. Reese earned an M.Litt. in Theology from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, and continuing his research in Scotland, he received his doctoral degree in Literature and Theology from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, in 2021.

Dr. Reese has served in a range of capacities over his twenty-four years in education: from teaching English, Creative Writing, Theology, and Cinema Studies to acting as Chair of English, Curriculum Coordinator, Dean of Students, and Head of the Upper School. In and among all of these roles, though, Dr. Reese discovered that this vocation is about leading scholars toward the good, the true, and the beautiful, to instill in them the classical and theological virtues that will make them persons of strong moral character, and, which will, in turn, foster intellectual, social, and personal transformation. And, it is in this, that Dr. Reese is grateful to serve in this capacity and as part of this community.

Dr. Reese, his wife, Alysson, and their four children are excited about this new opportunity and about new beginnings! Nunc coepi!
