MAYA ANGELOU
2nd Grade Teacher
Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Psychology, Elon University
In May of 2023, Miss D’Andrea graduated from Elon University after double-majoring in English Literature and Psychology as well as minoring in Criminal Justice Studies. Outside of her courses, Miss D’Andrea tutored mathematics to elementary school students in Haw River, North Carolina during the pandemic both online and in-person. She also worked on campus as a Writing Center Consultant, tutoring college students with written assignments of any discipline. Her experiences of mentoring others and her passion of learning have brought Miss D’Andrea to Tulsa Classical Academy, where she will be a first-time teacher.
Having just moved to Tulsa from South Florida, Miss D’Andrea loves spending time by the pool with a good book. She is an avid reader, mainly of mysteries, thrillers, and classic British literature. When inspired, Miss D’Andrea also enjoys writing poetry; she plans on spending any spare minute during the schoolyear working on her second novel. In addition, Miss D’Andrea likes to build her foreign language skills by continuing to learn Spanish and French, which she has been studying respectively since birth and middle school. A fun fact about Miss D’Andrea is that she studied abroad in France for one month, learning about French cuisine, religion, and culture. She is eager to share her love of learning with her students!
